The Ruby Bridges Foundation
Ruby is the chair of the Ruby Bridges Foundation, which she formed in
1999 to promote "the values of tolerance, respect, and appreciation of
all differences". Describing the mission of the group, she says, "racism
is a grown-up disease and we must stop using our children to spread
it." The foundation’s primary initiative is to create a school in the William Frantz Elementary building that will serve as a model for integration and equity in education. It will create a learning environment that brings children together so that they can do what previous generations have not been able to do: embrace our racial and cultural differences so that we can move forward.
